Brown spots, typically due to sun damage (lentigines, hyperpigmentation, freckles, or melasma), are simply pigment changes in the skin. The main cause of aggravation is sun exposure. Melasma is linked to the hormones estrogen and progesterone which are found in oral contraceptives. It is identical to Chloasma, or the "mask of pregnancy," and can be experienced by any woman.
Treatments
Pigment-specific lasers, intense pulsed light, and combination treatments are very commonly used to diminish brown spots. Skin lightening agents, such as hydroquinone and kojic acid, are also used to diminish brown spots. Combination therapies can be very beneficial, and include the aforementioned treatments along with a series of microdermabrasion and chemical peels.
Testimonials
“After having the laser vein treatment on my nose and cheeks I feel twenty years younger after just one treatment!”—Bill, 71
“I have been trying for 8 years to have clear skin and get rid of my dark pigment spots... from being in the sun. I started to worry and went to many dermatologists who gave me creams that didn't work. I look in the mirror now and see results every week. I will definitely recommend Gianna Medical Microdermabrasion to my family and friends. Thank you.”—Michelle, Account Executive
“I had to write to thank you for making Gianna's laser vein removal accessible and affordable... This summer I was free to go to the pool, the beach, and wear shorts -- it's fantastic.”—Teresa, mother of two
